EFFECTIVENESS OF WRITTEN COMMUNICATION ON ORGANIZATIONAL PERFORMANCE

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1  Background to the Study

According to Donnelly, Gibson, Iran and Ivanceivich in Onukwuli in Akam (2016) numerous techniques – attitude, surveys, grapevine, and suggestion systems exist to improve communication. Poor communication is probably the most frequently cited source of interpersonal conflict (Thomas and Schmidt in Robbins, Judge and Vohra, 2014). Adewoye and Akanbi (2015) maintained that in order to succeed (or even to survive) in this dynamic world, companies must take note not only traditional actions such as lowering cost but alaso keep pace with ever changing capabilities of communication network in advancing the growth of business organization through enhanced efficiency, profitability and expande market reach is both undisputed and irreversible. Adequate and strategic attention is placed so that these opportunities provided by communication network are not only limited and assessable only to the larger co-operation in Nigeria. Communication network differs in their capacity to convey information. According to Kock (2015) a model of richness helps explain channel selection among managers and indicates why people choose one channel of communication over others.

Small-scale enterprises now use the internet and network technology top conducts more of their work electronically, reliable linking factories, offices and sales forces around the globe (Dave and Standa 2013). This communication evolution is governed by applied infrastructures with converged service and integrated application (Lucas and Jack in Onukwuli and Akam, 2014) Anyasi and Imoize (2010) indicated that companies such as the shops, banks and institution interviewed, and extending these networks to suppliers, customers and other groups outside the organization to enable them respond instantly to customer demands and market shifts.

This study was necessitated by the fact that in Nigeria, large scale companies have continued to invest numerous sum of money in the acquisition of ICT, thus there is need to justify this large sum of money invested on this procurement. Considering this, it is from this that the present study examined the impact of effective communication on organization performance on Delight metal company. .

1.2             Background of the Study

Communication is an everyday activity or experiences and it affects all spheres of life: for example, business cannot take place without it. Verbal, non-verbal and/or written communication is essential to almost everything we do. Kotler in Onukwuli and Akam (2014) indicated that communication has been the lifeblood of an organization because communication is needed for exchanging information, exchanging opinions, making plans and proposals, reaching agreement, executing decision, sending and fulfilling others and conducting sales. Robbins, Judge and Vohra, (2012) assert that no ideas, no matter how great its usefulness, until transmitted and understood by others, perfect communication, if it existed, would occur when a thought or idea was transmitted so that the receiver perceived exactly the same mental picture as the sender. The message is received through the senses of the receiver and
