Abstract

The study analyzes claims payment patterns by development year, focusing on how insurance claims payments evolve over successive development periods and the implications of these patterns for claims reserving and insurance liability management. Development year analysis provides important information on the timing and progression of claims payments from the period in which claims originate through subsequent years of development. Understanding these patterns is essential for insurers because it supports the estimation of outstanding claims liabilities and improves financial planning. The study will examine the distribution and progression of claims payments across different development years. Attention will be given to variations in payment amounts, payment frequencies, cumulative payments, and the proportion of claims settled during each development period. The analysis will provide insight into how quickly claims are settled and whether payment patterns remain consistent across different periods of claims development. The study will further investigate the factors that may influence claims payment patterns across development years. These factors may include claims frequency, claims severity, claim reporting delays, settlement procedures, policy characteristics, claims complexity, and changes in claims management practices.
