Effect of Actuarial Model Validation on Insurance Valuation Reliability

Abstract

The study examines the effect of actuarial model validation on insurance valuation reliability, focusing on how the validation of actuarial models influences the accuracy and consistency of values assigned to insurance premiums, reserves, liabilities, and other financial obligations. Actuarial models rely on assumptions, statistical methods, and historical data to estimate future insurance outcomes. Proper validation is therefore important for identifying model weaknesses and ensuring that valuation results are supported by reasonable and reliable modelling processes. The study will investigate how actuarial model validation affects the reliability of insurance valuation estimates. It will assess whether systematic validation procedures improve the consistency and accuracy of valuation results. The study will also examine how model assumptions, parameter estimates, data quality, and model performance contribute to differences in insurance valuation outcomes. The analysis will focus on actuarial model validation, insurance valuation reliability, model assumptions, parameter estimates, valuation accuracy, prediction errors, and model performance. Validation techniques such as sensitivity analysis, back-testing, stress testing, and comparison of predicted and observed outcomes will be considered. These techniques will be used to assess the extent to which actuarial models produce stable and dependable valuation estimates. A quantitative research approach will be adopted for the study. Relevant insurance valuation and claims data will be analysed using selected actuarial models and statistical validation techniques. Model outputs will be compared with observed insurance experience, while sensitivity and error analysis will be conducted to assess variations in valuation estimates. Appropriate statistical measures will be used to evaluate the reliability and consistency of the model results. The study is expected to reveal that actuarial model validation has a measurable effect on insurance valuation reliability. Models subjected to systematic validation may produce more consistent and credible valuation estimates, while models with inadequate validation may generate greater estimation errors. The magnitude of the improvement is expected to depend on the quality of the underlying data, appropriateness of model assumptions, and effectiveness of the validation procedures applied. The findings are expected to provide useful information for actuaries and insurance companies on the importance of establishing effective model validation procedures. The study may support improved identification of model weaknesses, more reliable valuation estimates, and stronger actuarial risk assessment. It may also assist insurers in strengthening their pricing, reserving, and financial reporting processes through greater confidence in actuarial model outputs. The study concludes that actuarial model validation is an important component of reliable insurance valuation. It is therefore recommended that insurers and actuaries regularly validate actuarial models using appropriate statistical and actuarial techniques to identify estimation errors, assess model assumptions, and improve the reliability of insurance valuation results.
