Abstract
Aviation insurance provides financial protection against losses arising from risks associated with aircraft operations, including accidents, damage, and other insured aviation-related events. Flight exposure represents the extent to which an aircraft or aviation operation is exposed to operational risk through factors such as flight hours, flight frequency, and operating activity. Changes in flight exposure can therefore influence the likelihood and frequency of insurance claims. This study examines the effect of flight exposure on aviation insurance claim frequency. It will investigate how variations in the level of aircraft flight activity influence the occurrence of insured claims. The study will consider different measures of flight exposure and assess their relationship with the frequency of aviation insurance claims. The study will focus on factors such as flight hours, number of flights, aircraft utilization, flight frequency, route distance, aircraft type, operating environment, accident occurrence, and claim frequency. Actuarial and statistical techniques will be applied to determine how changes in flight exposure affect the expected number of insurance claims. The study concludes that flight exposure is an important factor in assessing aviation insurance claim frequency because the level of aircraft operational activity can influence the expected occurrence of insured events. It is therefore recommended that insurers incorporate reliable flight exposure measures, claims experience, aircraft characteristics, and operational information into aviation insurance actuarial models. Appropriate statistical and actuarial techniques should be applied to improve claim frequency estimation and support effective aviation risk management.
