Effect of Microinsurance Premium Frequency on Expected Premium Revenue
Abstract
Microinsurance provides affordable insurance protection to individuals and households with limited financial resources by offering low-cost coverage against specified risks. The frequency at which policyholders pay premiums can influence the timing, regularity, and accumulation of premium collections. Understanding how premium payment frequency affects expected premium revenue is therefore important for effective actuarial assessment, revenue forecasting, and financial planning within microinsurance operations. This study will examine the effect of microinsurance premium frequency on expected premium revenue. It will assess how different premium payment intervals influence the amount and timing of premium revenue expected from microinsurance policies. The study will also examine the variations in premium collection patterns associated with monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual payment arrangements. The study will focus on microinsurance premium frequency, expected premium revenue, premium amounts, policy duration, policyholder numbers, renewal rates, payment patterns, and premium collection levels. Actuarial and statistical techniques will be applied to estimate expected premium revenue under different payment-frequency structures. The analysis will consider the timing and regularity of premium payments in determining the expected revenue generated from microinsurance portfolios. A quantitative research approach will be adopted for the study. Relevant microinsurance policy records, premium payment records, payment frequencies, policy durations, policyholder numbers, and renewal information will be analysed using descriptive statistics, trend analysis, revenue estimation techniques, and actuarial modelling. Comparative analysis will be conducted across different premium payment frequencies to determine their effects on expected premium revenue. The study is expected to reveal that variations in microinsurance premium frequency may influence expected premium revenue. More frequent payment arrangements may produce more regular premium collections, while less frequent arrangements may generate larger individual payments at longer intervals. The overall effect may vary according to premium levels, policy duration, policyholder payment patterns, renewal experience, and the consistency of premium collection. The study will be useful to microinsurance providers, actuaries, underwriters, financial institutions, regulators, and researchers. It may provide useful information for improving premium payment structures and forecasting expected premium revenue. The findings may also support product design, revenue planning, cash-flow management, premium administration, and financial sustainability within microinsurance operations. The study concludes that premium payment frequency is an important consideration in estimating expected premium revenue from microinsurance policies. It is therefore recommended that microinsurance providers evaluate different payment-frequency structures using historical collection experience, policyholder payment patterns, premium levels, and appropriate actuarial revenue estimation techniques when planning and forecasting premium revenue.
