Abstract

The study examines the effect of vehicle spare-part prices on motor insurance claim payments, focusing on how changes in the cost of replacement parts influence the amount insurers pay to settle motor insurance claims. Spare parts constitute an important component of vehicle repair expenses, particularly where accidents require the replacement of damaged components. Changes in spare-part prices can therefore affect claims expenditure and the overall financial exposure of motor insurance companies. The study will investigate how variations in vehicle spare-part prices affect motor insurance claim payments. It will examine the relationship between the prices of commonly replaced vehicle components and the amounts paid by insurers for accident-related claims. The study will also assess how increases or reductions in spare-part prices influence total repair costs and claims settlement amounts. The analysis will focus on spare-part prices, claim payment amounts, repair costs, replacement frequency, claim severity, and motor insurance claims expenditure. Actuarial and statistical techniques will be applied to examine variations in claim payments associated with changes in spare-part prices. The study will consider the contribution of replacement parts to the overall cost of settling motor insurance claims. A quantitative research approach will be adopted for the study. The magnitude of the effect is expected to vary according to vehicle type, extent of damage, availability of parts, and the nature of the required repairs. The findings are expected to provide useful information for insurers and actuaries in estimating motor insurance claims expenditure and assessing changes in loss severity. The study may support more accurate claims cost projections and improve the assessment of repair-related risks during premium and reserve determination. It may also assist insurers in developing appropriate claims management strategies for controlling replacement-part expenses. The study concludes that vehicle spare-part prices are an important factor influencing motor insurance claim payments. It is therefore recommended that insurers regularly monitor spare-part price movements and incorporate reliable repair-cost and claims data into actuarial models to improve claims estimation, pricing decisions, and financial planning.
