Effect of Adult Education on Adults’ Knowledge of Television Repair Techniques

Abstract

Adult education provides opportunities for adults to acquire practical knowledge and skills that can improve their participation in technical, vocational, and income-generating activities. Television repair involves knowledge of television components, diagnostic procedures, repair tools, circuit-related faults, component replacement, and appropriate safety practices. However, some adults may have limited knowledge of television repair techniques due to inadequate access to structured technical learning opportunities. This study therefore examines the effect of adult education on adults’ knowledge of television repair techniques. Adult education programmes can provide practical and experience-based learning through demonstrations, guided instruction, discussions, illustrations, and supervised activities. In television repair education, adults can learn to identify basic television components, recognize common faults, use appropriate repair tools, carry out basic diagnostic procedures, handle components properly, and follow relevant safety precautions. These learning experiences can enable adults to relate theoretical explanations to practical repair activities and develop a clearer understanding of the procedures involved in television maintenance and repair. Adults’ knowledge of television repair techniques refers to their understanding of television components, tools, diagnostic procedures, repair processes, and safety measures required for basic repair activities. Adequate knowledge is important because incorrect fault identification, improper handling of components, unsuitable tool use, and failure to observe safety procedures can affect repair outcomes and create avoidable risks. Adult education may therefore improve adults’ knowledge by providing structured technical instruction, practical demonstrations, and opportunities to observe and practise appropriate television repair procedures. The study will adopt a suitable descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise adults participating in selected adult education or vocational programmes, from which an appropriate sample will be selected using a suitable sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire and an appropriate knowledge assessment designed to measure adults’ knowledge of television repair techniques. The research instruments will be subjected to appropriate validation procedures, while their reliability will be established before administration. Data collected will be analysed using relevant descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to determine the effect of adult education on adults’ knowledge of television repair techniques. The study is expected to establish that participation in adult education has a positive effect on adults’ knowledge of television repair techniques. Adults exposed to structured learning activities are expected to demonstrate improved knowledge of television components, repair tools, fault identification, diagnostic procedures, component handling, basic repair processes, and safety practices. The findings may further indicate that practical demonstrations and supervised learning activities enhance adults’ ability to understand and retain technical knowledge related to television repair. The study will conclude that adult education can provide an effective avenue for improving adults’ knowledge of television repair techniques. It will recommend that adult education and vocational programmes provide appropriate repair tools and equipment, practical demonstrations, supervised hands-on activities, relevant instructional materials, and adequate safety guidance. Strengthening these learning opportunities can improve adults’ technical knowledge, support vocational skill development, and enhance their ability to undertake basic television repair activities effectively and safely.
