Effect of Adult Learning on Adults’ Understanding of Inclusive Information Presentation
Abstract
Adult learning provides opportunities for adults to acquire knowledge and skills that can support effective participation in social, educational, and community activities. Inclusive information presentation refers to the practice of presenting information in forms and formats that can be accessed, understood, and used by people with different abilities, communication needs, and learning requirements. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of adult learning on adults’ understanding of inclusive information presentation. The study will focus on how adult learning experiences can improve adults’ knowledge of accessible and inclusive approaches to presenting information. Adult learning can expose adults to different methods of presenting information in ways that accommodate diverse communication and learning needs. Through discussions, demonstrations, practical exercises, and examples, learners can develop awareness of clear language, readable layouts, visual support, alternative formats, captions, appropriate text presentation, and other approaches that can improve accessibility. Such learning experiences may also help adults understand that information presented in only one format may create barriers for some individuals and that inclusive presentation can promote broader access to information. Adults’ understanding of inclusive information presentation involves their knowledge of the principles and practices used to make information accessible and understandable to people with different needs. It includes awareness of appropriate language, presentation formats, visual clarity, alternative communication methods, and the importance of considering accessibility when preparing or sharing information. Adult learning may strengthen this understanding by providing practical opportunities for adults to examine different presentation approaches and identify ways in which information can be made more inclusive. The study will adopt a suitable descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise adults participating in selected Adult Education programmes, from which an appropriate sample will be selected using a suitable sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire and an appropriate knowledge assessment designed to measure adults’ understanding of inclusive information presentation. The research instruments will be subjected to appropriate validation procedures, while their reliability will be established before administration. Data collected will be analysed using relevant descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to determine the effect of adult learning on adults’ understanding of inclusive information presentation. The study is expected to establish that adult learning has a positive effect on adults’ understanding of inclusive information presentation. Adults who participate in relevant learning activities may demonstrate improved knowledge of accessible presentation methods, alternative formats, clear communication practices, and approaches for reducing information barriers. The study may further establish that practical demonstrations and learning exercises can make the principles of inclusive information presentation easier for adults to understand and apply. The findings are expected to have implications for Adult Education practitioners, community learning facilitators, information providers, and organisations concerned with accessibility and inclusion. Incorporating inclusive information presentation into adult learning programmes may help learners develop practical knowledge that can be applied when preparing notices, educational materials, public information, workplace communication, and community messages. Practical activities involving different information formats may also encourage adults to consider the diverse needs of people who receive and use information. The study will be significant to adult learners, Adult Education practitioners, community organisations, information providers, and other stakeholders interested in promoting accessible communication and social inclusion. It is recommended that adult learning programmes should incorporate practical activities that expose adults to inclusive information presentation principles and accessible communication methods. The study concludes that adult learning can provide an effective avenue for improving adults’ understanding of inclusive information presentation and promoting wider access to useful information within communities.
