Abstract
Community education provides adults with opportunities to acquire practical knowledge that can support informed decision-making and effective responses to conditions within their communities. Local weather information provides useful details about expected rainfall, temperature, wind conditions, storms, and other atmospheric conditions that may influence daily activities, transportation, household planning, and livelihood decisions. However, some adults may have difficulty accessing, understanding, or applying local weather information when making practical decisions. This study will examine the effect of community education on adults’ ability to use local weather information. The study will determine whether participation in community-based educational activities can improve adults’ ability to obtain, interpret, and apply relevant weather information in everyday situations. Community education can provide practical opportunities for adults to learn about sources and forms of local weather information. Learning activities may include community discussions, demonstrations, information sessions, interpretation exercises, and practical activities involving weather reports and forecasts. Participants can learn how to identify relevant weather information, understand basic forecast terms, compare expected conditions, and determine how weather information may affect planned activities. Community educators can also introduce adults to appropriate sources through which local weather information can be obtained and help participants distinguish useful weather information from unclear or unreliable information. Adults’ ability to use local weather information refers to their capacity to obtain relevant weather information, understand its meaning, identify information applicable to their circumstances, and use it when making appropriate decisions. The research instruments will be subjected to appropriate validation procedures, while their reliability will be established before administration. Data collected will be analysed using relevant descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to determine the effect of community education on adults’ ability to use local weather information. The study is expected to establish that community education has a positive effect on adults’ ability to use local weather information. It is anticipated that adults who participate in structured community education activities will demonstrate improved ability to identify relevant weather information, understand basic forecast details, and apply such information to everyday decisions. The study may also establish that practical demonstrations, weather-report interpretation exercises, community discussions, and scenario-based activities are useful for helping adults connect weather information with situations encountered in their daily lives. The findings will have implications for Adult Education practitioners, community educators, weather-information providers, environmental organizations, and other stakeholders involved in public information and community preparedness. Community education programmes may incorporate practical activities that expose adults to realistic local weather reports and provide opportunities to practise using the information for different situations. Visual materials, forecast examples, group discussions, and practical decision-making exercises can make learning more accessible and relevant. Such approaches may strengthen adults’ weather literacy and their confidence in applying weather information appropriately. The study will be significant to adult learners, households, community organizations, Adult Education practitioners, weather-information stakeholders, and policymakers concerned with public awareness and community preparedness. Based on the expected findings, it will be recommended that community education programmes include practical learning activities on accessing, interpreting, and applying local weather information. The study will conclude that community education can contribute meaningfully to improving adults’ ability to use weather information and supporting more informed planning, preparedness, and everyday decision-making.
