Effect of Hairdressing Education on Adults’ Knowledge of Hair-Care Tools

Abstract

Hair-care tools are essential for carrying out different hairdressing activities effectively, safely, and efficiently. Hairdressing education provides adults with opportunities to acquire practical knowledge about the identification, uses, handling, and maintenance of tools used in hair-care activities. However, some adults may have limited knowledge of appropriate hair-care tools due to inadequate exposure to structured practical learning. This study will examine the effect of hairdressing education on adults’ knowledge of hair-care tools. Hairdressing education may introduce adults to different tools used for hair preparation, styling, cutting, treatment, and general maintenance. Learning activities may include demonstrations and practical exercises involving combs, brushes, hair dryers, clippers, scissors, rollers, sectioning tools, and other relevant equipment. Through guided practice and demonstrations, adults can learn to distinguish different tools based on their appearance, functions, appropriate uses, and handling requirements. Adults’ knowledge of hair-care tools refers to their ability to identify, describe, classify, and explain the uses of different tools employed in hairdressing activities. It may include knowledge of the appropriate tool for particular hair-care tasks, basic handling procedures, cleaning requirements, storage practices, and safe use. Effective hairdressing education may improve this knowledge by providing learners with opportunities to observe, handle, and practise using different hair-care tools. The study will adopt a suitable descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise adults participating in selected hairdressing or vocational education programmes, from which an appropriate sample will be selected using a suitable sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire and a hair-care tools knowledge assessment designed to measure adults’ knowledge of relevant tools and their uses. The research instruments will be subjected to appropriate validation procedures, while their reliability will be established before administration. Data collected will be analysed using relevant descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to determine the effect of hairdressing education on adults’ knowledge of hair-care tools. The study is expected to establish that participation in hairdressing education may improve adults’ knowledge of hair-care tools. Adults exposed to structured educational activities are expected to demonstrate better knowledge of tool identification, functions, appropriate uses, handling, cleaning, and storage. The findings may further indicate that practical demonstrations and hands-on activities are useful for helping adults develop familiarity with different hairdressing tools and their applications. The study will conclude that hairdressing education can provide an effective avenue for improving adults’ knowledge of hair-care tools. It will recommend that hairdressing education programmes provide adequate practical demonstrations, relevant tools, guided exercises, and opportunities for repeated practice. Improving adults’ knowledge of hair-care tools may contribute to better practical performance, safer hairdressing practices, vocational competence, and opportunities for income-generating activities.
