Impact of Business Communication Education on Adults’ Pitch-Presentation Skills

Abstract

Business Communication Education refers to structured learning that develops adults’ ability to communicate business ideas, information, and proposals clearly and professionally, while pitch-presentation skills refer to the ability to present a business idea, product, service, or proposal in a concise, convincing, and organized manner to an audience. Effective pitch presentation is important for adults involved in entrepreneurship, employment, business development, and professional activities because they may need to communicate ideas to potential customers, investors, employers, partners, or other stakeholders. However, inadequate communication skills may affect adults’ ability to present business ideas confidently and persuasively. Therefore, this study aims to examine the impact of Business Communication Education on adults’ pitch-presentation skills. Business Communication Education exposes adults to principles and practices of effective professional communication through lessons, demonstrations, discussions, practical exercises, and presentation activities. Learners can develop knowledge of audience analysis, message organization, appropriate language, verbal delivery, non-verbal communication, visual support, and persuasive communication. Practical communication activities may also provide adults with opportunities to prepare and deliver short business presentations while receiving feedback that can help improve their communication performance. Pitch-presentation skills involve the ability to structure a business message, explain a business idea clearly, communicate its value, maintain audience attention, and respond appropriately to questions or feedback. Adults with strong pitch-presentation skills can communicate business concepts in a manner that is concise, understandable, and relevant to their intended audience. Business Communication Education may therefore improve these skills by providing learners with knowledge, practice, and feedback on how to organize and deliver effective business pitches. The study will adopt a descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise adults participating in selected adult education and business-related learning programmes, from which a representative sample will be selected using an appropriate sampling procedure. Data will be collected using a structured questionnaire designed to measure exposure to Business Communication Education and adults’ pitch-presentation skills. The instrument will be subjected to appropriate validity and reliability procedures before administration. Data collected will be analysed using descriptive statistics and appropriate inferential statistical techniques. The study is expected to establish that Business Communication Education has a significant positive impact on adults’ pitch-presentation skills. Adults who receive relevant business communication education are expected to demonstrate improved ability to organize business messages, explain ideas clearly, communicate value, use appropriate verbal and non-verbal techniques, and respond effectively during pitch presentations. The study may further indicate that repeated presentation practice and constructive feedback contribute to improved confidence and effectiveness in business pitching. The findings will have implications for teaching and learning in Adult Education by emphasizing the need for practical communication activities that allow adults to develop and demonstrate pitch-presentation skills. Adult educators may incorporate business pitch exercises, simulated presentations, peer feedback, audience-focused activities, and presentation demonstrations into relevant programmes. Such approaches can provide learners with practical opportunities to apply communication principles and improve their ability to present business ideas effectively. The study will be beneficial to adult learners, entrepreneurs, adult educators, business trainers, employers, and organizations supporting small business development. Adult learners and entrepreneurs may benefit from improved ability to communicate business ideas to relevant audiences, while adult educators and business trainers may gain useful approaches for strengthening practical communication instruction. Employers and business-support organizations may also benefit from adults who can communicate proposals, products, and business ideas more effectively. The study will recommend that Adult Education programmes integrate practical Business Communication Education with regular pitch-presentation activities. Adult educators should provide learners with opportunities to develop business messages, practise presentations, receive constructive feedback, and improve their delivery techniques. Business training programmes should also emphasize audience awareness, clarity, organization, persuasion, and professional presentation. The study concludes that effective Business Communication Education can strengthen adults’ pitch-presentation skills and improve their ability to communicate business ideas confidently and effectively.
