Assessment of Farmers’ Knowledge of Cash Management in Farm Enterprises

Abstract

Agribusiness customer retention practices refer to the strategies and activities used by agricultural producers and farm-based enterprises to maintain relationships with existing customers and encourage repeat purchases. Retaining customers is important for the sustainability of agribusinesses because regular customers can provide stable demand, improve sales continuity, and support long-term business growth. Agricultural extension services can provide farmers with information, training, and advisory support on customer relations, product quality, communication, marketing, and business management. This study will examine the effect of agricultural extension on farmers’ adoption of agribusiness customer retention practices. It will assess how extension services influence farmers’ knowledge and use of strategies for maintaining existing customers and encouraging repeat patronage. The study will also examine the extent to which farmers exposed to agricultural extension adopt customer retention practices in their agribusiness activities. The study will focus on agricultural extension services, customer communication, customer feedback, product quality maintenance, customer satisfaction, follow-up practices, repeat purchasing, customer relationship management, and agribusiness retention strategies. Relevant information will be obtained from farmers engaged in agricultural production and marketing activities to assess their exposure to extension services and their adoption of customer retention practices. A quantitative research approach will be adopted for the study. Data will be collected from selected farmers using structured questionnaires designed to obtain information on extension contact, advisory support, customer retention knowledge, and adoption of retention practices. The data will be analysed using descriptive statistics, frequency distributions, percentages, mean scores, correlation analysis, and regression analysis to determine the effect of agricultural extension on farmers’ adoption of agribusiness customer retention practices. The study is expected to reveal that agricultural extension services may have a significant effect on farmers’ adoption of customer retention practices. Farmers who receive relevant extension information and business advisory support may demonstrate greater use of customer communication, feedback collection, product quality improvement, customer follow-up, and other practices that encourage repeat purchases. The extent of adoption may also vary according to farmers’ level of exposure to extension services and the nature of their agribusiness activities. The study will be useful to farmers, agricultural extension agents, agribusiness owners, agricultural development agencies, cooperative organisations, government institutions, and researchers. It may provide useful information on the role of extension services in strengthening farmers’ business relationships with customers and improving the sustainability of agricultural enterprises. The findings may also assist extension personnel in incorporating customer relationship and retention issues into agribusiness advisory programmes. The study concludes that agricultural extension can play an important role in improving farmers’ knowledge and adoption of agribusiness customer retention practices. It is therefore recommended that agricultural extension programmes include practical training on customer communication, feedback management, product quality, customer satisfaction, and repeat-purchase strategies. Extension agents should also provide continuous business advisory support to help farmers strengthen customer relationships and sustain their agribusiness activities.
