Assessment of Farmers’ Knowledge of Electronic Transaction Records in Agriculture
Abstract
The study assesses farmers’ knowledge of electronic transaction records in agriculture. Electronic transaction records provide digital documentation of financial activities such as the purchase of farm inputs, sale of agricultural produce, payments for services, and other farm-related transactions. Adequate knowledge of electronic transaction records can help farmers improve transaction documentation, maintain accurate financial information, and manage their agricultural activities more effectively. The study will assess farmers’ level of knowledge of electronic transaction records and determine their understanding of their meaning, uses, benefits, and methods of maintaining digital records. It will also examine farmers’ knowledge of how electronic transaction records can be used to track payments, document purchases and sales, monitor farm income and expenses, and provide evidence of agricultural transactions. A descriptive survey research design will be adopted for the study. Data will be collected from selected farmers using structured questionnaires administered through an appropriate sampling procedure. The data collected will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency counts, percentages, mean, and standard deviation, while an appropriate inferential statistical technique may be used to examine differences in farmers’ knowledge of electronic transaction records. The study is expected to reveal varying levels of farmers’ knowledge of electronic transaction records in agriculture. Farmers with greater exposure to digital technologies and agricultural information are expected to demonstrate better understanding of electronic transaction records and their applications in farm management. However, limited digital literacy, inadequate access to smartphones and internet services, concerns about digital security, and limited exposure to electronic financial tools may contribute to knowledge gaps. The findings will be useful to agricultural extension officers, agricultural development agencies, policymakers, financial institutions, digital agricultural service providers, and farmers’ organizations by providing information on farmers’ understanding of electronic transaction records. The findings may also assist in developing appropriate extension education programmes that improve farmers’ knowledge of digital financial recordkeeping and agricultural transaction management. The study will conclude that adequate knowledge of electronic transaction records can support improved financial documentation and management of agricultural activities. It will recommend strengthening extension education on digital recordkeeping, improving farmers’ digital literacy, promoting access to appropriate electronic transaction tools, and providing practical guidance on the secure management and use of digital transaction records.
