Effect of Extension Training on Farmers’ Participation in Agricultural Community Outreach Activities

Abstract

Agricultural community outreach activities provide opportunities for farmers to access agricultural information, participate in development programmes, share experiences, and interact with extension personnel and other agricultural stakeholders. Such activities may include farmer meetings, field demonstrations, agricultural exhibitions, community training sessions, awareness programmes, and other participatory agricultural events. However, farmers’ participation may be influenced by their access to information, awareness of outreach programmes, and understanding of their potential benefits. Extension training can improve farmers’ knowledge of agricultural activities and encourage greater participation in community-based outreach programmes. This study will examine the effect of extension training on farmers’ participation in agricultural community outreach activities. The study will assess farmers’ exposure to extension training, determine their level of awareness and knowledge of community outreach activities, and examine the extent to which extension training influences their participation. It will also assess the frequency of training and the types of outreach information provided to farmers. The study will focus on extension training, farmers’ participation, agricultural community outreach activities, farmer meetings, field demonstrations, agricultural exhibitions, community training, awareness programmes, extension contact, information access, participation frequency, community engagement, knowledge sharing, and agricultural development activities. Information will be obtained from farmers to determine their exposure to extension training and their participation in agricultural community outreach programmes. A quantitative research approach will be adopted for the study. Data will be collected from selected farmers using structured questionnaires and appropriate participation records where available. Descriptive statistics such as frequency distributions, percentages, means, and standard deviations will be used to summarize the data, while correlation and regression analysis will be used to examine the relationship between extension training and farmers’ participation in agricultural community outreach activities. The study is expected to reveal that extension training may increase farmers’ awareness, knowledge, and participation in agricultural community outreach activities. Farmers who receive regular training and information from extension personnel may be more likely to attend farmer meetings, participate in demonstrations, engage in community agricultural programmes, and interact with other stakeholders. The study may also indicate that practical and accessible training contributes to greater participation in agricultural outreach activities. The study will be useful to farmers, agricultural extension agents, agricultural development agencies, community-based organizations, agricultural cooperatives, non-governmental organizations, researchers, and policymakers. It may provide useful information for improving the design and delivery of agricultural community outreach programmes. The findings may also assist extension personnel in developing inclusive training activities that encourage farmers to participate actively in agricultural development initiatives. The study concludes that extension training can provide farmers with useful knowledge and awareness that may encourage participation in agricultural community outreach activities. It is therefore recommended that agricultural extension agencies strengthen regular training, community meetings, practical demonstrations, and awareness programmes that are accessible to farmers. Extension personnel should also encourage active farmer involvement in planning and participating in outreach activities to improve information exchange and support community agricultural development.
