The Effect of Louver Design on Daylight Distribution in Buildings

Abstract

Daylighting is an important aspect of building design because adequate natural light can improve visual comfort, reduce dependence on artificial lighting, and contribute to healthier indoor environments. However, uncontrolled daylight can produce excessive brightness, glare, and uneven illumination, particularly in spaces with large glazed openings. Louvers provide a passive means of controlling solar penetration while allowing useful daylight to enter buildings. The design and configuration of louvers can therefore have a significant influence on how daylight is distributed within interior spaces. This study examines the effect of louver design on daylight distribution in buildings, focusing on how louver orientation, spacing, depth, angle, material, and placement influence indoor illumination. It considers both horizontal and vertical louver configurations and their relationship with window size, building orientation, room depth, and ceiling height. The study also evaluates how different louver arrangements affect the penetration and distribution of daylight from areas close to windows to deeper sections of occupied spaces. Louver geometry plays an important role in controlling the direction and quantity of incoming daylight. Appropriately designed horizontal louvers can redirect sunlight toward ceilings and deeper areas of rooms, while vertical louvers can provide effective control of sunlight entering from particular orientations. The spacing and angle of louvers determine the amount of visible sky and direct solar radiation reaching the interior. Consequently, careful coordination between louver dimensions, window configuration, and building orientation is necessary to achieve a balanced daylight environment. The study also considers the relationship between louver design, visual comfort, and building energy performance. Effective louvers can reduce direct solar penetration and glare while maintaining sufficient daylight for occupants. Improved daylight distribution can reduce the need for artificial lighting during daylight hours, potentially contributing to lower energy consumption. However, excessively dense or poorly positioned louvers may reduce daylight availability and create darker interior spaces. The design challenge is therefore to achieve effective solar control without unnecessarily restricting useful natural illumination. Several factors can influence the effectiveness of louver systems, including local solar conditions, surrounding buildings, seasonal changes, glazing characteristics, interior surface reflectance, and room geometry. Maintenance requirements, material durability, cost, and architectural appearance may also affect the practical application of louvers. A louver configuration that performs effectively in one building orientation or climatic context may produce different results elsewhere. Daylight analysis should therefore be integrated into the design process to determine configurations appropriate to specific building conditions. The study aims to provide a clearer understanding of how louver design influences daylight distribution and visual performance in buildings. The findings are expected to assist architects, building designers, and environmental consultants in selecting appropriate louver configurations for different building orientations and interior requirements. By integrating louver design with window configuration, building orientation, daylight analysis, and solar control strategies, buildings can achieve improved natural illumination, reduced glare, enhanced visual comfort, and more efficient use of energy.

I actually googled and saw about iproject master, copied the number and contacted them through WhatsApp to ask for the availability of the material and to my luck they have it. So there was a delay with the project due to the covid19 pandemic. I was really scared before making the payment cause I’ve been scammed twice, they attended so well to me and that made me trust the process and made the payment and provided them with proof, I got my material in less than 10minutes
