Abstract
The study will assess farmers’ knowledge of agricultural machinery fuel management. Proper fuel management is important for ensuring efficient operation of agricultural machinery, reducing fuel wastage, controlling operating costs, and maintaining reliable machine performance. Farmers’ knowledge of appropriate fuel management practices can therefore contribute to more efficient use of agricultural machinery and improved farm operations. The study will focus on farmers’ knowledge of appropriate fuel selection, proper fuel storage, safe fuel handling, fuel measurement, prevention of fuel contamination, monitoring of fuel consumption, identification of fuel leaks, and regular checking of fuel systems. It will also examine farmers’ understanding of the importance of clean fuel, suitable storage containers, proper storage conditions, and timely maintenance of fuel-related components of agricultural machinery. A descriptive survey research design will be adopted for the study. The population will comprise farmers who own, operate, or use agricultural machinery in the selected study area. A suitable sampling procedure will be used to select respondents, while data will be collected through a structured questionnaire designed to assess farmers’ knowledge of agricultural machinery fuel management. Data collected will be analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, mean, and standard deviation. The study is expected to reveal the level of farmers’ knowledge of agricultural machinery fuel management and identify areas where knowledge may be inadequate. It is also expected to show farmers’ understanding of fuel storage, handling, consumption monitoring, contamination prevention, leak detection, and proper maintenance of machinery fuel systems. The findings will be useful to agricultural extension officers, agricultural mechanization agencies, machinery service providers, farmers’ organizations, and other stakeholders involved in farm mechanization. The study will provide information that can guide the development of practical extension programmes and training activities aimed at improving farmers’ knowledge of fuel management and promoting efficient use of agricultural machinery. The study will conclude that adequate knowledge of agricultural machinery fuel management is important for reducing fuel wastage, maintaining machinery efficiency, and controlling farm operating costs. It will recommend that agricultural extension services should provide farmers with practical training, demonstrations, and technical information on proper fuel selection, storage, handling, consumption monitoring, contamination prevention, and fuel-system maintenance.
