Abstract
The study assesses farmers’ knowledge of farm weather station information. Farm weather stations provide important environmental information such as rainfall, temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and other weather conditions that can support informed agricultural decision-making. Adequate knowledge of information generated from these stations can help farmers improve farm planning, manage weather-related risks, and make appropriate decisions throughout the crop production cycle. The study will assess farmers’ level of knowledge of farm weather station information and determine their understanding of the different types of weather data generated by farm weather stations. It will also examine farmers’ knowledge of how information on rainfall, temperature, humidity, wind conditions, and other weather variables can be applied to crop production activities such as planting, irrigation, pest management, and harvesting. A descriptive survey research design will be adopted for the study. Data will be collected from selected farmers using structured questionnaires administered through an appropriate sampling procedure. The data collected will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency counts, percentages, mean, and standard deviation, while an appropriate inferential statistical technique may be used to examine variations in farmers’ knowledge of farm weather station information. The study is expected to reveal varying levels of farmers’ knowledge of farm weather station information. Farmers with greater exposure to agricultural extension services and weather information are expected to demonstrate better understanding of weather station data and its relevance to farm management. However, limited access to weather stations, inadequate technical knowledge, poor dissemination of weather information, and difficulties in interpreting weather data may contribute to gaps in farmers’ knowledge. The findings will be useful to agricultural extension officers, agricultural development agencies, policymakers, meteorological institutions, and farmers’ organizations by providing information on farmers’ understanding of farm weather station information. The findings may also assist in designing appropriate extension education programmes that improve farmers’ ability to interpret and apply weather information in agricultural activities. The study will conclude that adequate knowledge of farm weather station information is important for effective weather-informed agricultural decision-making. It will recommend strengthening extension education on the interpretation and application of weather station information, improving farmers’ access to farm weather stations, and promoting the regular dissemination of simple and understandable weather information to farming communities.
