Effect of Extension Education on Farmers’ Adoption of Farm Store Record Management

Abstract

The study will examine the effect of extension education on farmers’ adoption of farm store record management. Effective farm store record management is important for monitoring stored agricultural inputs, produce, equipment, and other farm resources. Proper record management enables farmers to track quantities received and issued, monitor stock balances, identify shortages, maintain accurate information, and support informed decisions concerning storage and farm operations. The study will focus on the extent to which farmers adopt farm store record management practices following extension education. Specific areas will include recording items received into the store, documenting items issued, maintaining stock balances, recording dates of transactions, identifying damaged or missing items, updating inventory records, conducting regular stock checks, and safely maintaining store records for future reference. Extension education is expected to provide farmers with relevant knowledge and practical skills for managing farm store records systematically. A descriptive survey research design will be adopted for the study. The population will comprise farmers in the selected study area, from whom respondents will be selected using an appropriate sampling procedure. Data will be collected using a structured questionnaire designed to obtain information on farmers’ exposure to extension education, knowledge of farm store record management, and adoption of relevant practices. The data collected will be analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, mean, standard deviation, and an appropriate inferential statistical technique. The study is expected to reveal that extension education contributes to farmers’ adoption of farm store record management practices. The findings may indicate improvements in farmers’ ability to document store transactions, maintain stock balances, update records, identify discrepancies, and conduct regular checks of stored resources. The study may also identify challenges that affect farmers’ consistent application of proper farm store record management practices. The findings will be useful to agricultural extension officers, agricultural development agencies, farmers’ organizations, farm managers, and policymakers by providing information on the contribution of extension education to farm store management. The findings may assist extension personnel in developing practical educational programmes that strengthen farmers’ record-keeping skills and improve the monitoring and management of farm resources stored for agricultural activities. The study will conclude that effective extension education can enhance farmers’ knowledge and adoption of farm store record management practices. It will recommend that agricultural extension officers provide practical demonstrations, record-keeping exercises, advisory visits, and follow-up support on documenting store transactions, maintaining stock balances, checking records against physical stock, and safely preserving farm store records.
