Effect of Extension Training on Farmers’ Adoption of Agricultural Produce Delivery Scheduling

Abstract

The study will examine the effect of extension training on farmers’ adoption of agricultural produce delivery scheduling. Effective delivery scheduling involves planning the timing, sequence, and coordination of produce deliveries to buyers, markets, processors, storage facilities, or other destinations. Proper scheduling can help farmers organize produce movement, reduce delays, improve coordination with buyers, minimize unnecessary handling, and support the timely delivery of agricultural products. The study will focus on the extent to which farmers adopt agricultural produce delivery scheduling practices following extension training. Specific areas will include determining delivery dates, planning delivery times, coordinating with buyers, arranging produce according to delivery schedules, preparing transportation in advance, maintaining delivery records, confirming delivery arrangements, and adjusting schedules when necessary. Extension training is expected to provide farmers with practical knowledge and skills for planning and managing the movement of agricultural produce. A descriptive survey research design will be adopted for the study. The population will comprise farmers in the selected study area, from whom respondents will be selected using an appropriate sampling procedure. Data will be collected using a structured questionnaire designed to obtain information on farmers’ exposure to extension training, knowledge of produce delivery scheduling, and adoption of relevant scheduling practices. The data collected will be analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, mean, standard deviation, and an appropriate inferential statistical technique. The study is expected to reveal that extension training contributes to farmers’ adoption of agricultural produce delivery scheduling practices. The findings may indicate improvements in farmers’ ability to establish delivery dates, coordinate with buyers, prepare produce and transportation in advance, maintain delivery records, confirm delivery arrangements, and make necessary scheduling adjustments. The study may also identify challenges that limit farmers’ ability to consistently follow planned delivery schedules. The findings will be useful to agricultural extension officers, agricultural development agencies, farmers’ organizations, produce marketers, transport operators, and policymakers by providing information on the role of extension training in improving produce delivery coordination. The findings may assist extension personnel in developing practical training programmes that strengthen farmers’ planning, scheduling, communication, and produce distribution skills. The study will conclude that effective extension training can enhance farmers’ knowledge and adoption of agricultural produce delivery scheduling practices. It will recommend that agricultural extension officers provide practical demonstrations, planning exercises, advisory visits, and follow-up support on delivery planning, buyer coordination, transportation preparation, scheduling records, and timely communication to improve the efficiency of agricultural produce distribution.
