Abstract
The study will examine the effect of extension training on farmers’ adoption of farm goal-setting practices. Farm goal-setting involves the process of identifying clear agricultural objectives and establishing practical targets to guide farm activities, resource use, production decisions, and business operations. Effective goal-setting can help farmers organize their activities, prioritize available resources, monitor progress, and work towards desired farm outcomes. The study will focus on the extent to which farmers adopt goal-setting practices following extension training. Specific areas will include identifying farm objectives, setting production targets, establishing financial goals, planning farm activities, setting timelines, prioritizing farm tasks, reviewing farm performance, and adjusting goals when necessary. Extension training is expected to provide farmers with practical knowledge and skills for developing realistic and achievable farm goals. A descriptive survey research design will be adopted for the study. The population will comprise farmers in the selected study area, from whom respondents will be selected using an appropriate sampling procedure. Data will be collected using a structured questionnaire designed to obtain information on farmers’ exposure to extension training, knowledge of farm goal-setting, and adoption of relevant goal-setting practices. The data collected will be analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, mean, standard deviation, and an appropriate inferential statistical technique. The study is expected to reveal that extension training contributes to farmers’ understanding and adoption of farm goal-setting practices. The findings may indicate improvements in farmers’ ability to identify clear farm objectives, establish production and financial targets, plan activities within specific periods, monitor progress, and review farm performance. Differences may also be observed in the extent to which farmers adopt the identified practices. The findings will be useful to agricultural extension officers, agricultural development agencies, farmers’ organizations, and policymakers by providing information on the contribution of extension training to farmers’ planning and management practices. The study may also assist extension personnel in developing training programmes that emphasize practical goal-setting skills and encourage farmers to apply structured planning approaches in their farm operations. The study will conclude that effective extension training can provide farmers with useful knowledge and skills for adopting farm goal-setting practices. It will recommend that extension officers strengthen training activities through practical demonstrations, farm planning exercises, regular advisory visits, and follow-up support to encourage farmers to establish, monitor, and review realistic farm goals.
