DESIGN OF EXPANDABLE NETWORK FRAMEWORK FOR SMART ENVIRONMENT USING PACKET TRACER FOR SIMULATION
ABSTRACT
The proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices has necessitated robust, scalable network infrastructures capable of supporting diverse smart environment applications. This project presents the design and simulation of an expandable network framework for smart environments using Cisco Packet Tracer 7.2.1. The framework integrates various IoT devices including smart lights, smart doors, security cameras, motion sensors, environmental sensors, and alarm systems into a cohesive network architecture supporting both wired and wireless connectivity. The research adopts a structured methodology for network design, device configuration, and security implementation, drawing upon established principles from analysis of existing smart home implementations. The proposed framework incorporates DHCP for automated IP address allocation, remote server registration for device management, and multiple security layers including WPA2-PSK encryption and differentiated authentication credentials for critical devices. Simulation results demonstrate the framework's capability to accommodate additional devices without fundamental architectural changes, responsiveness to environmental conditions through sensor-triggered automation, and resilience through battery backup systems. The findings indicate that the expandable network framework provides a viable foundation for smart environment deployments ranging from residential homes to institutional buildings.
