CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the Study

The poultry industry in Nigeria has evolved significantly over the past few decades, becoming a crucial component of the country's agricultural sector. Poultry farming in Nigeria encompasses the production of various types of birds, including chickens, turkeys, ducks, and geese, which play a vital role in food security and economic development (Adesola, 2021). The industry's growth has been driven by increasing domestic demand for poultry products, such as meat and eggs, which are essential sources of protein for the Nigerian population (Iwegbue, 2020).

Between 2010 and 2015, the Nigerian poultry sector witnessed substantial developments, characterized by both advancements and challenges. During this period, numerous studies and reports have documented the sector's dynamics, focusing on aspects such as production practices, disease management, economic impacts, and policy issues (Ogunyemi & Alabi, 2019). However, the sector continues to face challenges, including disease outbreaks, fluctuating market prices, and inadequate infrastructure, which impact the overall growth and development of the industry (Ibrahim & Ahmed, 2023).

The importance of documenting and analyzing the research conducted during this period cannot be overstated. By compiling a comprehensive bibliography of relevant studies, this research seeks to provide a valuable resource for policymakers, researchers, and practitioners involved in the poultry industry. 1.2 Statement of the Problem

Despite the progress made in the Nigerian poultry industry between 2010 and 2015, the sector continues to encounter significant challenges that hinder its growth and sustainability. Hypothesis I
