Abstract

The study assesses the anatomical boundaries of the pelvic compartments, with emphasis on the structures that define and separate the major spaces within the pelvic cavity. The pelvis contains several interconnected compartments that accommodate important visceral, vascular, neural, and musculoskeletal structures. Accurate knowledge of their anatomical boundaries is essential for understanding the organization of the pelvic cavity and for supporting clinical procedures, imaging interpretation, and surgical approaches involving pelvic structures. The study will assess the anatomical boundaries of the major pelvic compartments using standardized anatomical landmarks and appropriate dissection, osteological, or imaging-based assessment procedures. The specific objectives will include identifying the structures forming the boundaries of the major pelvic compartments, describing their anatomical relationships, determining variations in the configuration of selected boundaries, and documenting the spatial relationships between the compartments and adjacent pelvic organs, muscles, vessels, and nerves. A descriptive anatomical research design will be adopted for the study. Appropriate anatomical specimens, osteological materials, or suitable imaging materials will be selected using an appropriate sampling or selection procedure, depending on the assessment method employed. Data on the boundaries and relationships of the pelvic compartments will be obtained through systematic anatomical assessment using standardized landmarks and documented using appropriate descriptive methods. The findings will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency and percentage where applicable, while appropriate comparative methods may be applied when measurable variations are identified. The study is expected to reveal the anatomical configuration of the major pelvic compartments and the structures contributing to their boundaries. Variations may be observed in the extent, arrangement, and relationships of selected boundaries, including differences in the position or configuration of muscles, fasciae, bones, vessels, and visceral structures. Such findings are expected to demonstrate the importance of recognizing normal anatomical variation when evaluating the organization of the pelvic cavity. The findings will be useful to anatomists, radiologists, general surgeons, urologists, gynaecologists, colorectal surgeons, and other healthcare professionals involved in the assessment and management of pelvic structures. Detailed information on the boundaries of pelvic compartments may support anatomical education, interpretation of cross-sectional imaging, localization of pelvic structures, and planning of surgical or other clinical procedures involving the pelvis. The study will conclude by documenting the anatomical boundaries and relationships of the pelvic compartments within the study materials. It is recommended that standardized anatomical landmarks and systematic assessment procedures be used when evaluating pelvic compartments, while further studies involving larger samples and advanced imaging techniques should be conducted to provide broader reference information on pelvic compartment anatomy and anatomical variation.
