Comparative Study of Upper Limb Flexibility Between Male and Female Young Adults
Abstract
The study examines the comparative upper limb flexibility between male and female young adults, with emphasis on differences in the range of movement and flexibility of selected joints and muscle groups of the upper extremity. Upper limb flexibility is important for efficient movement, functional performance, coordination, and the performance of routine physical activities. Understanding variations in upper limb flexibility between male and female young adults may provide useful information on normal functional differences in upper limb mobility. The study will assess and compare upper limb flexibility between male and female young adults using standardized clinical and functional assessment procedures. The specific objectives will include determining the level of upper limb flexibility among male participants, assessing flexibility among female participants, comparing the measured flexibility between the two groups, and evaluating differences in selected upper limb movements involving the shoulder, elbow, and wrist joints where applicable. A cross-sectional comparative research design will be adopted for the study. An appropriate sample of male and female young adults will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique. Upper limb flexibility will be assessed using standardized range-of-motion and flexibility tests under controlled conditions. Data obtained from the assessments will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while appropriate comparative inferential statistical tests will be applied to determine whether measurable differences exist between male and female participants. The study is expected to reveal measurable variation in upper limb flexibility among the participants. Differences may be observed between male and female young adults in selected measures of shoulder, elbow, or wrist flexibility, with some parameters potentially showing statistically significant differences. The findings are expected to demonstrate that upper limb flexibility may vary between individuals and between the two groups when assessed using standardized procedures. The findings will be useful to anatomists, physiotherapists, orthopaedic practitioners, sports medicine professionals, rehabilitation specialists, and other healthcare professionals involved in the assessment of upper limb function. The study may provide useful reference information on normal upper limb flexibility among young adults and may support functional assessment, physical performance evaluation, rehabilitation planning, and the interpretation of variations in upper limb mobility. The study will conclude by documenting the comparative upper limb flexibility of male and female young adults within the study population. It is recommended that standardized flexibility and range-of-motion assessment procedures be used when evaluating upper limb mobility, while further studies involving larger and more diverse populations should be conducted to establish broader reference data on sex-related and individual variations in upper limb flexibility.
