Correlation Between Palm Breadth and Wrist Mobility Among Undergraduate Students

Abstract

The study examines the correlation between palm breadth and wrist mobility among undergraduate students. Palm breadth is an important anthropometric characteristic of the hand, while wrist mobility contributes to the functional performance of the hand and upper limb during activities requiring grasping, manipulation, and coordinated movement. Understanding the relationship between palm breadth and wrist mobility may provide useful information on the structural and functional characteristics of the upper limb among young adults. The study will specifically determine the palm breadth of undergraduate students and assess wrist mobility through selected standardized movements of the wrist joint. Palm breadth will be measured using appropriate anatomical landmarks and standardized anthropometric procedures, while wrist mobility will be assessed through relevant range-of-motion measurements. The study will also determine the strength and direction of the correlation between palm breadth and wrist mobility among the participants. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Undergraduate students will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique, and relevant demographic information will be obtained. Palm breadth will be measured using standardized anthropometric instruments, while wrist mobility will be assessed using an appropriate goniometric or range-of-motion technique. The collected data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while correlation analysis will be employed to determine the relationship between palm breadth and wrist mobility. The study is expected to reveal variations in palm breadth and wrist mobility among the participating undergraduate students. It is expected to recommend the use of standardized anthropometric and range-of-motion procedures in similar investigations and encourage further research involving larger and more diverse populations to provide broader information on the relationship between hand morphology and wrist function.
