Effect of Repetitive Lower-Limb Activity on Muscle Fatigue
Abstract
The study examines the effect of repetitive lower-limb activity on muscle fatigue among young adults, with emphasis on how repeated or sustained lower-limb movements influence muscular performance and the development of fatigue. Repetitive activities involving the lower limbs, such as repeated squatting, stepping, walking, running, or other cyclical movements, require continuous activation of muscles involved in movement and postural control. Understanding the effects of repeated lower-limb activity is important for appreciating the functional demands placed on the lower-limb muscles and the physiological responses associated with repetitive physical activity. The study will assess the effect of repetitive lower-limb activity on muscle fatigue by evaluating muscle performance before and after a standardized repetitive activity. Muscle fatigue will be assessed using appropriate functional measures such as repeated movement performance, lower-limb endurance tests, perceived exertion, or changes in muscular force where applicable. The assessment will focus on selected lower-limb muscle groups involved in the performance of the activity and will provide information on changes in muscular performance following repeated exercise. A comparative experimental research design will be adopted for the study. Young adult participants will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique and subjected to a standardized repetitive lower-limb activity under controlled conditions. Baseline muscle performance will be assessed before the activity and compared with measurements obtained immediately after the activity and, where appropriate, during the recovery period. Data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, with appropriate inferential statistical tests used to determine significant changes in muscle performance. The study is expected to reveal a measurable increase in lower-limb muscle fatigue following repetitive activity. Muscle performance may decrease after repeated movements, as reflected by reduced endurance, changes in force production, increased perceived exertion, or reduced ability to maintain the required movement pattern. The magnitude of fatigue is expected to vary according to the intensity and duration of the activity and the functional demands placed on the participating lower-limb muscles. The findings will be useful to anatomists, physiotherapists, exercise professionals, sports practitioners, occupational health professionals, and other healthcare professionals concerned with lower-limb function and physical performance. The study may provide useful information on the response of lower-limb muscles to repetitive activity and contribute to understanding the functional consequences of sustained or repeated movements. The findings may also support appropriate activity planning, exercise prescription, and rest strategies aimed at reducing excessive muscular fatigue. The study will conclude by determining the effect of repetitive lower-limb activity on muscle fatigue among the study population. It is recommended that appropriate activity intensity, duration, and rest periods be considered during repetitive lower-limb activities to promote adequate muscular recovery and maintain functional performance. Further studies involving larger and more diverse populations and different forms of repetitive lower-limb activity should also be conducted to provide broader information on lower-limb muscular fatigue.
