Morphological Variation of the External Auditory Canal Among Young Adults

Abstract

The study examines morphological variation of the external auditory canal among young adults, with emphasis on differences in its shape, configuration, and measurable anatomical characteristics. The external auditory canal is a specialized passage that extends from the auricle to the tympanic membrane and serves important functions in the transmission of sound and protection of the deeper structures of the ear. Understanding its morphological characteristics is important for appreciating normal anatomical variation and may be relevant to otological assessment, audiological procedures, forensic anthropology, and clinical examination. The study will assess the morphological characteristics of the external auditory canal among young adults and document the patterns of variation observed within the study population. The specific objectives will include identifying the different shapes and configurations of the external auditory canal, determining selected dimensions of the canal, documenting variations in its anatomical features, and comparing the observed characteristics between the right and left sides where applicable. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. An appropriate sample of young adults will be selected using a suitable sampling technique. Data on the morphology and dimensions of the external auditory canal will be obtained through appropriate clinical, imaging-based, or anatomical assessment procedures using standardized anatomical landmarks and measurement techniques.
