Abstract

The scaphoid is one of the carpal bones of the wrist and plays an important role in the structural organization, movement, and stability of the wrist joint. Its distinctive anatomical position and relationship with the radius and other carpal bones make it clinically important in wrist injuries, fracture assessment, radiological interpretation, and surgical procedures. Variations in the morphology and dimensions of the scaphoid may occur among individuals and may provide useful information for understanding anatomical diversity of the wrist. The study will assess the morphological variation of the scaphoid bone among young adults. Specifically, it will identify the different morphological characteristics of the scaphoid, determine selected dimensions of the bone, and document variations in its shape and structural features. The study will also provide information on the distribution of observed scaphoid morphological patterns within the study population. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Young adults who meet the established inclusion criteria will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique. The scaphoid will be examined using standardized anatomical and osteological assessment procedures, with appropriate imaging techniques employed where applicable. Selected measurements and morphological characteristics will be recorded, and the data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations, with appropriate inferential tests applied where necessary. The study is expected to reveal observable variations in the shape, dimensions, and morphological characteristics of the scaphoid among the participants. Differences in selected measurements and the frequency of particular morphological patterns may also be identified. These findings are expected to provide useful information on the range of normal scaphoid morphology among young adults. The findings will be useful to anatomists, anthropologists, radiologists, orthopaedic professionals, and other healthcare practitioners involved in the assessment and management of wrist conditions. The study may provide anatomical reference data that can support the interpretation of scaphoid morphology, fracture assessment, surgical planning, and comparative anatomical research involving the wrist. The study will conclude by documenting the observed morphological patterns and dimensional variations of the scaphoid among young adults. It will recommend the use of standardized assessment procedures in studies of carpal bone morphology and encourage further research involving larger and more diverse populations to improve available anatomical reference data on scaphoid variation.
