Relationship Between Body Mass Index and Muscle Circumference Among Undergraduate Students
Abstract
The study examines the relationship between body mass index and muscle circumference among undergraduate students. Body mass index is a commonly used anthropometric indicator for assessing body size and weight status, while muscle circumference provides useful information about muscular development and body composition. Examining the relationship between these measurements may provide additional insight into variations in the physical characteristics of young adults. The study will focus on determining the body mass index of undergraduate students and assessing selected muscle circumference measurements. Body weight and height will be measured using standardized anthropometric procedures, while muscle circumference will be obtained at appropriate anatomical sites using a non-stretchable measuring tape. The measurements will be used to calculate body mass index and determine the circumference of selected muscle regions. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Undergraduate students who meet the eligibility criteria will be selected using an appropriate sampling procedure. Anthropometric measurements will be obtained using standardized techniques to improve accuracy and consistency. The data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while correlation analysis will be used to determine the relationship between body mass index and muscle circumference. The study is expected to reveal variations in body mass index and muscle circumference among the participating undergraduate students. It is also expected to identify the nature and strength of the relationship between body mass index and the selected muscle circumference measurements. Differences in anthropometric characteristics may also be observed among students with different body mass index categories. The findings of the study are expected to provide useful anthropometric information for anatomists, physiotherapists, sports scientists, nutrition and fitness professionals, and other health-related practitioners. The study may also contribute to the understanding of how body size and muscular dimensions are related among young adults and provide baseline information for future anthropometric and anatomical research. The study will conclude by highlighting the observed relationship between body mass index and muscle circumference among undergraduate students. It will recommend the use of standardized anthropometric procedures when assessing body size and muscular dimensions and encourage further studies involving larger and more diverse populations to provide broader comparative information.
