Relationship Between Fifth Metacarpal Dimensions and Hand Length Among Young Adults

Abstract

The study examines the relationship between fifth metacarpal dimensions and hand length among young adults, with emphasis on determining the association between the dimensions of the fifth metacarpal bone and the overall longitudinal measurement of the hand. The fifth metacarpal forms the skeletal framework of the little-finger side of the hand and contributes to the structure, stability, and functional movement of the hand. Understanding its dimensions in relation to hand length may provide useful information on skeletal proportions and anatomical variation among young adults. The study will assess the dimensions of the fifth metacarpal and determine their relationship with hand length among the study population. The specific objectives will include measuring the length and breadth of the fifth metacarpal, determining hand length, examining the relationship between fifth metacarpal dimensions and hand length, and identifying the specific metacarpal measurements that demonstrate notable associations with overall hand length. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study.
