Relationship Between Hand Temperature and Finger Dexterity Among Young Adults

Abstract

The study examines the relationship between hand temperature and finger dexterity among young adults, with emphasis on how variations in hand temperature may be associated with the functional performance of the fingers. Hand temperature reflects peripheral blood flow and local thermoregulatory responses, while finger dexterity involves coordinated movements of the fingers and hand during precise and repetitive tasks. Understanding the relationship between these variables may provide useful information on the functional anatomy of the hand and the factors that may influence fine motor performance. The study will assess hand temperature and finger dexterity among young adult participants under standardized environmental and resting conditions. Hand temperature will be measured using an appropriate non-invasive temperature measurement device at selected regions of the hand, while finger dexterity will be assessed using a suitable standardized dexterity test involving tasks such as precise object manipulation, controlled finger movements, or timed hand activities. The measurements will be obtained under comparable conditions to minimize the influence of environmental temperature and temporary changes in hand activity. A descriptive cross-sectional research design will be adopted for the study. An appropriate sample of young adults will be selected using a suitable sampling technique. Data obtained from hand temperature and finger dexterity assessments will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while an appropriate correlation test will be applied to determine the strength and statistical significance of the relationship between the two variables. The study is expected to reveal a measurable relationship between hand temperature and finger dexterity among the participants. Participants with relatively warmer hands may demonstrate differences in dexterity performance compared with those with lower hand temperatures, although the direction and magnitude of the relationship may vary among individuals. Differences may also be observed according to the specific finger movements and dexterity tasks assessed. The findings will be useful to anatomists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, sports scientists, occupational health professionals, and other healthcare practitioners involved in the assessment of hand function. The study may provide useful information on the relationship between peripheral temperature and fine motor performance and may contribute to the understanding of how vascular and functional characteristics of the hand interact during precise finger activities. The study will conclude by documenting the observed relationship between hand temperature and finger dexterity among the study population. It is recommended that standardized environmental conditions and consistent assessment procedures be used when evaluating hand temperature and finger dexterity, while further studies involving larger and more diverse populations should be conducted to provide broader reference information on peripheral temperature and fine motor function.
