Relationship Between Neck Muscle Circumference and Cervical Mobility Among Young Adults

Abstract

The study examines the relationship between neck muscle circumference and cervical mobility among young adults. Neck circumference provides an anthropometric indication of the size of the neck region, while cervical mobility reflects the range of movement available within the cervical region. Assessing the relationship between these characteristics may provide useful information on the association between neck dimensions and cervical movement among young adults. The study will determine neck muscle circumference and assess cervical mobility among young adults. Neck circumference will be measured at a standardized anatomical level using a non-stretchable measuring tape, while cervical mobility will be assessed through standardized range-of-motion procedures involving appropriate cervical movements. The measurements will be obtained under controlled conditions to improve accuracy and consistency and will be used to examine the relationship between neck circumference and cervical mobility. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Young adults who meet the inclusion criteria will be selected using an appropriate sampling procedure. Anthropometric and cervical mobility measurements will be obtained using standardized techniques and suitable anatomical landmarks. The data will be analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while correlation analysis will be used to determine the strength and direction of the relationship between neck circumference and cervical mobility. The study is expected to reveal variations in neck circumference and cervical mobility among the participating young adults. It is also expected to demonstrate the nature and strength of the relationship between neck circumference and selected measures of cervical range of motion. The findings may indicate whether differences in neck dimensions are associated with variations in cervical mobility within the study population. The findings of the study are expected to provide useful information for anatomists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, orthopaedic professionals, ergonomists, clinicians, and researchers interested in cervical structure and function. The findings may also contribute to the understanding of the relationship between anthropometric characteristics and cervical mobility and provide baseline information for future studies involving the neck and cervical region. The study will conclude by highlighting the observed relationship between neck muscle circumference and cervical mobility among young adults. It will recommend the use of standardized anthropometric and range-of-motion assessment procedures and encourage further research involving larger and more diverse populations to provide broader information on neck dimensions and cervical function.
