Sexual Dimorphism in Eye Anthropometric Dimensions Among Young Adults

Abstract

The study will examine sexual dimorphism in eye anthropometric dimensions among young adults, with emphasis on identifying differences in selected ocular and periocular measurements between male and female participants. Eye anthropometric dimensions are important anatomical characteristics that contribute to the understanding of facial morphology and population variation. The assessment of these dimensions may also provide useful information for anatomical, anthropological, clinical, and forensic applications. The study will specifically assess selected eye dimensions such as interpupillary distance, intercanthal distance, outercanthal distance, palpebral fissure length, and palpebral fissure height among young adults. The study will determine the mean values of these measurements for male and female participants and compare the observed dimensions between the sexes. Standardized anatomical landmarks and direct anthropometric procedures will be employed to ensure consistency and accuracy during data collection. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Young adult participants will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique, and relevant demographic information will be obtained. Eye anthropometric measurements will be taken using suitable standardized instruments and procedures while maintaining consistent participant positioning and measurement conditions. The data obtained will be analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while appropriate inferential statistical tests will be applied to determine significant differences between male and female participants. The study is expected to reveal measurable differences in selected eye anthropometric dimensions between male and female young adults. Male participants may demonstrate greater mean values in some ocular dimensions, while certain measurements may show overlapping distributions between the sexes. The findings are expected to establish the pattern and magnitude of sexual variation in the assessed eye dimensions and provide reference values for the study population. The findings of the study will be useful to anatomists and anthropologists in understanding sex-related variation in ocular and facial morphology. They may also provide relevant information for forensic practitioners involved in biological profiling and human identification, as well as clinicians and researchers concerned with ocular, facial, and craniofacial assessment. The findings may further contribute to the development of population-specific anthropometric reference data. The study will conclude by providing information on sexual dimorphism in selected eye anthropometric dimensions among young adults. It is expected that standardized anthropometric procedures will enhance the reliability and comparability of the measurements obtained. Further studies involving larger and more diverse populations are recommended to establish broader reference values and examine possible population-related variations in eye anthropometric characteristics.
