Effect of Longevity Index Changes on Longevity-Linked Contract Values

Abstract

Longevity-linked contracts are financial and insurance arrangements whose values are linked to changes in population survival patterns and life expectancy. Longevity indices provide measures of changes in mortality and survival experience and can therefore influence the financial value of contracts exposed to longevity risk. Accurate assessment of these changes is important for determining contract values and managing the financial consequences of unexpected improvements in longevity. This study will examine the effect of longevity index changes on longevity-linked contract values. It will assess how increases and decreases in longevity indices influence the valuation of contracts whose payments or liabilities depend on survival and life expectancy patterns. The study will also examine how variations in longevity assumptions affect expected future payments and the corresponding financial value of longevity-linked contracts. The study will focus on longevity indices, longevity-linked contracts, life expectancy, mortality rates, survival probabilities, contract values, longevity risk, benefit payments, discount rates, and actuarial valuation. Actuarial models will be applied to estimate contract values under different longevity index assumptions. Alternative mortality improvement and survival scenarios will be considered to determine their implications for the value of longevity-linked contracts. A quantitative research approach will be adopted for the study. Relevant mortality data, longevity index values, survival probabilities, contract payment structures, discount rates, and projected future cash flows will be analysed using actuarial valuation techniques, survival models, present value calculations, sensitivity analysis, and scenario modelling. Changes in longevity index assumptions will be applied to determine their effects on estimated contract values. The study is expected to reveal that changes in longevity indices may have a significant effect on longevity-linked contract values. Improvements in longevity indices may increase the expected duration of survival-related payments and consequently alter the value of contracts exposed to longevity risk. The magnitude of the effect may depend on the size of index changes, mortality improvement patterns, contract duration, payment structures, and discount rate assumptions. The study will be useful to actuaries, insurance companies, pension institutions, financial analysts, risk managers, investors, regulators, and researchers. It may provide useful information for improving the valuation of longevity-linked contracts, assessing longevity risk exposure, projecting future financial obligations, and supporting appropriate pricing and risk management decisions. The study concludes that longevity index changes are important determinants of the value of longevity-linked contracts because variations in population survival patterns can affect expected future cash flows and financial obligations. It is therefore recommended that institutions regularly monitor longevity indices, update mortality assumptions, and apply appropriate actuarial valuation and sensitivity analysis techniques when assessing longevity-linked contract values.
