Bilateral Variation in External Nasal Features Among Young Adults

Abstract

The study examines bilateral variation in external nasal features among young adults, with emphasis on differences between corresponding features on the right and left sides of the nose. External nasal morphology represents an important aspect of human facial anatomy and may demonstrate measurable variation among individuals and between anatomical sides. The assessment of these features can contribute to the understanding of normal anatomical diversity and provide useful information for anthropometric and anatomical studies. The study will assess selected bilateral external nasal features among young adults using standardized anatomical landmarks and direct anthropometric measurement procedures. Relevant measurements will include corresponding nasal dimensions obtained from the right and left sides, where applicable, together with selected overall nasal measurements. The study will also document the extent of bilateral differences and describe the distribution of observed nasal morphological characteristics among the participants. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Young adults who meet the established eligibility criteria will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique. Data will be collected through direct observation and standardized anthropometric measurements using suitable measuring instruments, with consistent positioning and anatomical landmarks maintained throughout the assessment. The collected data will be analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while appropriate statistical tests will be used to determine significant differences between corresponding right- and left-sided measurements. The study is expected to reveal measurable bilateral variation in selected external nasal features among the participants. Differences may be observed in the magnitude and distribution of corresponding nasal measurements, while some features may demonstrate relatively symmetrical patterns. Further studies involving larger and more diverse populations are also recommended to provide broader reference information on bilateral nasal variation.
