Correlation Between Dental Arch Perimeter and Facial Breadth Among Undergraduate Students

Abstract

The study will examine the correlation between dental arch perimeter and facial breadth among undergraduate students, with emphasis on determining the strength and direction of the association between these two anatomical dimensions. Dental arch perimeter represents the overall curved extent of the dental arch, while facial breadth reflects the transverse width of the face. Understanding the relationship between dental arch and facial dimensions may provide useful information on variations in oral and craniofacial morphology. The study will specifically determine the mean dental arch perimeter and facial breadth among the participants and assess the relationship between the two measurements. Dental arch perimeter will be assessed using standardized dental landmarks and appropriate intraoral measurement procedures, while facial breadth will be determined across the maximum transverse width of the face using standardized facial anthropometric landmarks. Consistent measurement procedures will be maintained throughout data collection. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Undergraduate students will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique, and relevant demographic information will be obtained. Dental and facial measurements will be obtained using suitable standardized instruments and procedures under consistent assessment conditions.
