Correlation Between Dermatoglyphic Patterns and Finger Dimensions Among Young Adults

Abstract

The study will examine the correlation between dermatoglyphic patterns and finger dimensions among young adults, with emphasis on determining whether measurable differences in finger dimensions are associated with variations in fingerprint ridge patterns. Dermatoglyphic patterns are stable anatomical characteristics established during fetal development and include major configurations such as loops, whorls, and arches. Finger dimensions are also important anthropometric characteristics that contribute to the understanding of hand morphology and individual anatomical variation. The study will focus on identifying the major dermatoglyphic patterns present on the fingers and measuring selected finger dimensions among young adults. Fingerprint impressions will be obtained and classified according to established dermatoglyphic criteria, while finger length and breadth will be measured using standardized anatomical landmarks. The study will examine the distribution of these measurements across the identified fingerprint pattern categories and determine the degree of association between the variables. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Young adults who meet the inclusion criteria will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique. Fingerprint impressions will be collected using suitable fingerprint recording materials, while finger dimensions will be obtained directly using appropriate anthropometric instruments. The collected data will be analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while appropriate correlation and comparative statistical techniques will be applied to examine the relationship between dermatoglyphic patterns and finger dimensions. The study is expected to reveal variations in finger dimensions across different dermatoglyphic pattern categories. It is also expected to determine the strength and direction of any measurable association between fingerprint patterns and selected finger dimensions among the participants.
