Correlation Between Femur-to-Tibia Ratio and Body Height Among Young Adults
Abstract
The study examines the correlation between the femur-to-tibia ratio and body height among young adults. The femur and tibia are major long bones of the lower limb that contribute substantially to overall lower limb length and body stature. Assessment of the proportional relationship between these bones and body height may provide useful information on skeletal proportions and normal anthropometric variation among young adults. The study will determine femur length, tibia length, and body height among selected young adults and calculate the femur-to-tibia ratio for each participant. The measurements will be obtained using standardized anatomical landmarks and appropriate anthropometric procedures. The study will subsequently examine the relationship between the femur-to-tibia ratio and body height to determine the pattern and strength of association between the variables. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Young adults who meet the established inclusion criteria will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique. Femur and tibia lengths will be measured using suitable anthropometric instruments, while body height will be determined using a standardized stadiometric procedure. Data obtained will be analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and an appropriate correlation statistical technique. The study is expected to reveal the distribution of femur length, tibia length, femur-to-tibia ratio, and body height among the participants. It is anticipated that the findings will demonstrate the nature and strength of the relationship between the femur-to-tibia ratio and body height. The results may also provide useful information on lower limb skeletal proportions within the study population. The findings of the study are expected to be useful to anatomists, anthropologists, forensic practitioners, physiotherapists, orthopaedic professionals, and researchers interested in skeletal anthropometry. Information on the relationship between lower limb proportions and body height may contribute to anatomical reference data and support future studies involving stature estimation, skeletal proportions, and human biological variation. The study will conclude by establishing the observed relationship between the femur-to-tibia ratio and body height among young adults. It is recommended that standardized anatomical landmarks and measurement procedures be maintained when assessing long bone dimensions and stature. Further studies involving larger and more diverse populations are recommended to provide broader reference information on lower limb proportions and their relationship with body height.
