Correlation Between Nasal Bridge Breadth and Facial Breadth Among Undergraduate Students

Abstract

The study examines the correlation between nasal bridge breadth and facial breadth among undergraduate students, focusing on the association between these two facial anthropometric dimensions. Nasal bridge breadth represents an important feature of the upper external nose, while facial breadth provides an indication of the transverse dimension of the face. Understanding the relationship between these measurements may provide useful information on normal facial proportions and anatomical variation among young adults. The study will determine the nasal bridge breadth and facial breadth of undergraduate students using standardized anatomical landmarks and direct anthropometric measurement procedures. Nasal bridge breadth will be measured across the appropriate transverse region of the nasal bridge, while facial breadth will be determined as the maximum transverse distance between the appropriate lateral facial landmarks. The study will describe the distribution of both measurements and determine the degree of association between nasal bridge breadth and facial breadth among the participants. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Undergraduate students who meet the established eligibility criteria will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique. Data will be collected through direct observation and standardized anthropometric measurements using suitable measuring instruments, with consistent participant positioning and anatomical landmarks maintained throughout the assessment. The collected data will be analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while Pearson correlation analysis will be used to determine the relationship between nasal bridge breadth and facial breadth. The study is expected to reveal measurable variation in nasal bridge breadth and facial breadth among the undergraduate students. The correlation analysis is expected to indicate the direction and strength of the association between the two measurements. The findings may demonstrate whether individuals with greater facial breadth tend to have corresponding differences in nasal bridge breadth within the study population. The findings will be useful to anatomists, anthropologists, forensic practitioners, clinicians, and researchers involved in facial anthropometry and human identification. The information may provide reference data for comparative studies of facial proportions and contribute to a better understanding of the relationship between nasal and facial dimensions. It is recommended that standardized anatomical landmarks and measurement procedures be maintained when assessing facial dimensions to improve measurement reliability and comparability.
