Morphological Variation of the Tibialis Posterior Muscle Among Young Adults

Abstract

The study examines the morphological variation of the tibialis posterior muscle among young adults, with emphasis on differences in its anatomical configuration, dimensions, and structural characteristics. The tibialis posterior is a deep muscle of the posterior compartment of the leg and contributes to plantarflexion and inversion of the foot while providing important support to the medial longitudinal arch. Understanding its morphological characteristics is important for appreciating individual variation in lower-limb anatomy and for supporting clinical and functional assessment of the leg, ankle, and foot. The study will assess the morphological characteristics of the tibialis posterior muscle among young adults using standardized anatomical landmarks and appropriate assessment procedures. The specific objectives will include identifying different morphological patterns of the muscle, determining selected dimensions, documenting variations in its shape and configuration, and assessing observable differences in its anatomical characteristics among the study participants. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. An appropriate sample of young adult participants will be selected using a suitable sampling technique. It is recommended that standardized anatomical and imaging-based procedures be used when evaluating the muscle and that further studies involving larger and more diverse populations be conducted to establish broader reference data on tibialis posterior muscle morphology and anatomical variation.
