Relationship Between Access to Digital Anatomy Resources and Independent Anatomy Learning
Abstract
The study examines the relationship between access to digital anatomy resources and students’ independent anatomy learning. Digital anatomy resources provide students with flexible opportunities to access anatomical information beyond the traditional classroom and laboratory environment. These resources may include digital atlases, anatomy applications, three-dimensional anatomical models, online video demonstrations, interactive learning platforms, and electronic reference materials that can support self-directed study and revision. The study will assess students’ access to digital anatomy resources and determine the extent to which such resources are used for independent anatomy learning. Specific objectives will include identifying the types of digital anatomy resources accessible to students, determining the frequency and pattern of their use, assessing students’ independent learning activities, and examining the relationship between access to digital anatomy resources and independent anatomy learning. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Undergraduate students will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique. Data will be collected using a structured questionnaire designed to obtain information on students’ access to digital anatomy resources, frequency of use, accessibility of devices and internet services, and independent learning activities such as self-revision, exploration of anatomical structures, review of difficult topics, and preparation for practical and theoretical assessments. Data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while appropriate inferential statistics will be used to determine the relationship between digital resource access and independent anatomy learning. The study is expected to reveal variations in students’ access to and use of digital anatomy resources. Students with greater access to suitable digital resources are expected to demonstrate more frequent independent learning activities, including repeated review of anatomical structures, exploration of complex topics, and flexible revision outside scheduled teaching periods. Challenges such as limited internet access, inadequate devices, high data costs, unfamiliarity with some digital platforms, or limited availability of suitable anatomy resources may affect students’ ability to use digital resources consistently. The findings will be useful to anatomists, anatomy educators, medical educators, institutional administrators, curriculum planners, and students. The study may provide useful information on how access to digital anatomy resources supports independent learning and may assist educational institutions in identifying appropriate digital resources for anatomy education. The findings may also encourage the integration of accessible and reliable digital learning materials alongside conventional anatomy teaching and practical activities. The study will conclude by determining the relationship between access to digital anatomy resources and independent anatomy learning among the study population. It is recommended that students should be provided with appropriate and accessible digital anatomy resources, reliable internet support, and adequate guidance on their effective use, while further studies involving larger and more diverse student populations should be conducted to provide broader evidence on digital resources and independent anatomy learning.
