Relationship Between Clavicular Length and Shoulder Mobility Among Undergraduate Students
Abstract
The study examines the relationship between clavicular length and shoulder mobility among undergraduate students. The clavicle is an important component of the shoulder girdle, providing structural support and contributing to the positioning and movement of the upper limb. Shoulder mobility reflects the functional range of movement of the shoulder complex, and examining its relationship with clavicular length may provide useful information on anatomical variation and upper limb function among young adults. The study will specifically determine the clavicular length of undergraduate students and assess their shoulder mobility through selected standardized movements. Clavicular length will be measured using appropriate anatomical landmarks and standardized anthropometric procedures, while shoulder mobility will be assessed through measurements of relevant movements of the shoulder joint. The study will also determine the nature and strength of the relationship between clavicular length and shoulder mobility among the participants. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Undergraduate students will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique, and relevant demographic information will be obtained. Clavicular length will be measured using standardized anatomical procedures, while shoulder mobility will be assessed using an appropriate goniometric or standardized range-of-motion technique. The collected data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while correlation analysis will be employed to determine the relationship between clavicular length and shoulder mobility. The study is expected to reveal variations in clavicular length and shoulder mobility among the participating undergraduate students. It is also expected to determine whether a significant association exists between clavicular length and the measured range of shoulder movement. The findings will provide information on the anatomical and functional characteristics of the shoulder without implying that clavicular length directly causes differences in shoulder mobility. The findings will be useful to anatomists, physiotherapists, sports scientists, occupational therapists, physical educators, orthopaedic professionals, and researchers interested in the structure and function of the shoulder girdle. The study may provide baseline information that can support the understanding of normal clavicular variation and shoulder movement and contribute to future investigations of upper limb biomechanics and functional assessment. The study will conclude by establishing the observed relationship between clavicular length and shoulder mobility among undergraduate students. It is expected to recommend the use of standardized anatomical and range-of-motion assessment procedures in similar studies and encourage further research involving larger and more diverse populations to provide broader information on the relationship between clavicular morphology and shoulder function.
