Relationship Between Grip Strength and Body Mass Index Among Young Adults
Abstract
The study examines the relationship between grip strength and body mass index among young adults. Grip strength is an important indicator of hand and upper limb functional performance, while body mass index provides a commonly used measure for assessing body size in relation to body weight and height. Examining the relationship between these variables may provide useful information on the association between body composition characteristics and muscular performance among young adults. The study will assess grip strength and determine the body mass index of the participants. Grip strength will be measured using a calibrated hand dynamometer, while body mass index will be calculated from standardized measurements of body weight and body height. Appropriate procedures will be followed during all measurements to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability of the collected data. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Young adults who meet the predetermined inclusion criteria will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique. Grip strength, body weight, and body height will be assessed under standardized conditions. The collected data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while correlation analysis will be used to determine the relationship between grip strength and body mass index. The study is expected to reveal variations in grip strength and body mass index among the participants. It is also expected to determine whether a measurable relationship exists between grip strength and body mass index. The findings may provide information on the extent to which differences in body size are associated with variations in grip strength among young adults. The findings will be useful to anatomists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, sports scientists, rehabilitation professionals, and other health-related practitioners. The study may provide useful reference information for understanding the relationship between body size and hand functional strength and may support physical performance assessment, rehabilitation planning, anthropometric evaluation, and further research involving young adults. The study will conclude by providing information on the relationship between grip strength and body mass index among young adults. It will be recommended that standardized procedures for measuring body height, body weight, and grip strength be maintained during similar assessments. Further studies involving larger and more diverse populations will also be encouraged to provide broader reference data on the relationship between anthropometric characteristics and muscular performance.
