Relationship Between Leg Strength and Foot Dimensions Among Undergraduate Students
Abstract
The study examines the relationship between leg strength and foot dimensions among undergraduate students. Leg strength represents an important component of lower limb functional capacity, while foot dimensions provide useful anthropometric information about the structure and proportions of the foot. Understanding the relationship between these characteristics may contribute to knowledge of lower limb biomechanics, physical performance, and functional variation among young adults. The study will specifically determine the level of leg strength among undergraduate students and assess selected foot dimensions, including foot length, foot breadth, and other relevant measurements obtained through standardized anthropometric procedures. It will also examine the relationship between leg strength and the measured foot dimensions and identify patterns of variation in these characteristics among the participants. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Undergraduate students will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique, and relevant demographic information will be obtained. Leg strength will be assessed using a standardized strength assessment procedure, while foot dimensions will be measured using appropriate anthropometric instruments and anatomical landmarks. The collected data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while correlation analysis will be used to determine the relationship between leg strength and foot dimensions. The study is expected to reveal the distribution of leg strength and foot dimensions among the participating undergraduate students and determine whether measurable associations exist between lower limb strength and selected foot dimensions. The findings may provide useful information on the extent to which variations in foot size and proportions correspond with differences in leg strength without implying a causal relationship. The findings will be useful to anatomists, physiotherapists, sports scientists, physical educators, podiatrists, ergonomists, and other professionals interested in lower limb structure and function. The study may also provide baseline anthropometric and functional information that can support physical performance assessment, lower limb evaluation, footwear considerations, and future research involving foot morphology and muscular strength. The study will conclude by establishing the observed relationship between leg strength and foot dimensions among the participants. It is expected to recommend the use of standardized anthropometric and strength assessment procedures in similar studies and encourage further research involving larger and more diverse populations to provide broader evidence on the relationship between foot morphology and lower limb functional capacity.
