Relationship Between Nasal Height and Nasal Bridge Length Among Undergraduate Students

Abstract

The study examines the relationship between nasal height and nasal bridge length among undergraduate students, with emphasis on the association between these two external nasal dimensions. Nasal height and nasal bridge length are important components of external nasal morphology and contribute to the overall structure and proportions of the human face. Understanding the relationship between these measurements may provide useful information on normal nasal variation and contribute to anatomical and anthropometric research. The study will determine the nasal height and nasal bridge length of undergraduate students using standardized anatomical landmarks and direct anthropometric measurement procedures. Nasal height will be assessed from the appropriate superior nasal landmark to the inferior nasal landmark, while nasal bridge length will be measured along the defined anatomical region of the nasal bridge using a standardized procedure. The study will also describe the distribution of both measurements and determine the degree of association between nasal height and nasal bridge length. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Undergraduate students who meet the established eligibility criteria will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique. Data will be collected through direct observation and standardized anthropometric measurements using suitable measuring instruments, with consistent participant positioning and anatomical landmarks maintained throughout the assessment. The collected data will be analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while correlation analysis will be used to determine the relationship between nasal height and nasal bridge length. The study is expected to reveal measurable variation in nasal height and nasal bridge length among the undergraduate students. The analysis is expected to demonstrate the direction and strength of the association between the two measurements. The findings may indicate whether differences in nasal height are accompanied by corresponding differences in nasal bridge length within the study population. The findings will be useful to anatomists, anthropologists, forensic practitioners, clinicians, and researchers involved in facial anthropometry and external nasal morphology. The information may provide reference data for comparative studies of nasal dimensions and contribute to the understanding of normal facial proportions. It may also be relevant to clinical assessment and reconstructive procedures involving the external nose. The study will conclude by establishing the nature of the relationship between nasal height and nasal bridge length among undergraduate students. It is recommended that standardized anatomical landmarks and measurement procedures be maintained in studies involving external nasal dimensions to improve measurement reliability and comparability. Further studies involving larger and more diverse populations are recommended to provide broader reference information on the relationship between different nasal dimensions.
