Relationship Between Oral Cavity Length and Mandibular Length Among Undergraduate Students

Abstract

The study will examine the relationship between oral cavity length and mandibular length among undergraduate students. Oral cavity length represents the anteroposterior dimension of the oral cavity, while mandibular length describes the longitudinal dimension of the mandible. Understanding the relationship between these dimensions is important for describing oral and craniofacial morphology and examining the proportional characteristics of the oral cavity and lower jaw among young adults. The study will determine oral cavity length using appropriate standardized intraoral anatomical landmarks and measurement procedures. Mandibular length will also be assessed using suitable anatomical landmarks and standardized measurement techniques appropriate for anthropometric evaluation. The study will further assess variations in both dimensions and determine the degree of association between oral cavity length and mandibular length among the participants. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Undergraduate students who meet the established inclusion criteria will be selected using an appropriate sampling procedure. Data will be collected through standardized intraoral and craniofacial measurements using suitable calibrated instruments and consistent measurement procedures. The collected data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while correlation analysis will be employed to determine the relationship between oral cavity length and mandibular length. The study is expected to reveal measurable variations in oral cavity length and mandibular length among the undergraduate students. A significant correlation may be observed between the two dimensions, indicating the extent to which differences in mandibular length correspond with variations in oral cavity length. The findings are expected to provide quantitative information on the proportional relationship between oral and mandibular dimensions without implying a causal relationship. The findings will be useful to anatomists, dental practitioners, orthodontists, maxillofacial professionals, and other specialists involved in oral and craniofacial assessment. The study may contribute to a better understanding of the anatomical relationship between oral cavity dimensions and mandibular morphology among young adults. It may also provide reference information for future studies involving oral morphometry, mandibular dimensions, dental assessment, orthodontics, and craniofacial anatomy. The study will conclude by establishing the observed relationship between oral cavity length and mandibular length among the selected undergraduate students. It will recommend the use of standardized anatomical landmarks and measurement procedures when assessing oral cavity and mandibular dimensions to improve reliability and comparability. Further studies involving larger and more diverse populations will also be recommended to provide broader information on the relationship between oral and mandibular morphology.
