Relationship Between Quadratus Lumborum Muscle Dimensions and Trunk Length Among Young Adults

Abstract

The study examines the relationship between quadratus lumborum muscle dimensions and trunk length among young adults, with emphasis on determining whether variations in trunk length are associated with differences in selected dimensions of the quadratus lumborum muscle. The quadratus lumborum is a deep posterior abdominal muscle located in the posterior abdominal wall and contributes to lateral flexion of the trunk, stabilization of the lumbar spine, and control of pelvic and spinal movements. Understanding its dimensions in relation to trunk length may provide useful information on individual variation in trunk musculature. The study will determine selected dimensions of the quadratus lumborum muscle and measure the trunk length of young adults. The specific objectives will include measuring selected dimensions of the quadratus lumborum muscle, determining the trunk length of the participants, assessing the variation in both measurements, and establishing the relationship between quadratus lumborum muscle dimensions and trunk length among the study participants. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. An appropriate sample of young adult participants will be selected using a suitable sampling technique. Data on quadratus lumborum muscle dimensions will be obtained through standardized anatomical or imaging-based assessment procedures, while trunk length will be measured using appropriate anthropometric techniques and standardized anatomical landmarks. It is recommended that standardized anatomical, imaging-based, and anthropometric procedures be used when assessing the muscle and trunk dimensions, while further studies involving larger and more diverse populations should be conducted to establish broader reference data on the relationship between trunk dimensions and deep abdominal muscle morphology.
