Relationship Between Spinoglenoid Notch Dimensions and Scapular Measurements Among Undergraduate Students
Abstract
The spinoglenoid notch is an important anatomical feature of the scapula located between the lateral part of the scapular spine and the glenoid region. It provides a pathway for the suprascapular nerve as it passes into the infraspinous fossa, making its morphology and dimensions relevant to the anatomy and function of the shoulder region. Variations in the size of the spinoglenoid notch may occur in association with differences in overall scapular morphology. The study will therefore examine the relationship between spinoglenoid notch dimensions and selected scapular measurements among undergraduate students. The study will determine the width, depth, and other relevant dimensions of the spinoglenoid notch and assess selected measurements of the scapula, including scapular length, breadth, and other appropriate morphometric parameters. It will also examine the relationships between the dimensions of the spinoglenoid notch and the selected scapular measurements. The study will provide information on the extent to which variations in overall scapular morphology are associated with differences in spinoglenoid notch dimensions. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Undergraduate students will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique, and the scapulae will be assessed using standardized anatomical landmarks and measurement procedures. Spinoglenoid notch dimensions and selected scapular measurements will be obtained through appropriate osteological or imaging-based assessment methods, depending on the study setting and available materials. The collected data will be analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while appropriate correlation and regression analyses will be used to examine the relationships between the measured variables. The study is expected to reveal measurable relationships between spinoglenoid notch dimensions and selected scapular measurements among the undergraduate students. Variations in scapular length, breadth, and other morphometric characteristics may correspond with differences in notch width and depth. The findings are expected to provide a clearer understanding of the morphometric relationship between the spinoglenoid notch and the overall dimensions of the scapula without implying a causal relationship between the anatomical variables. The findings will be useful to anatomists, anthropologists, radiologists, orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists, and other healthcare professionals involved in the evaluation of the shoulder region. Information on the relationship between spinoglenoid notch dimensions and scapular measurements may contribute to the interpretation of anatomical and radiological findings and improve understanding of the anatomical environment surrounding the suprascapular nerve. The study may also provide reference data for osteological research and future investigations involving scapular morphometry. The study will conclude by establishing the observed relationships between spinoglenoid notch dimensions and selected scapular measurements among undergraduate students. It is expected to demonstrate the degree of association between the measured variables and provide useful morphometric information on the spinoglenoid region. The study will recommend standardized measurement procedures in future research and encourage further studies involving larger and more diverse populations to improve understanding of variation in scapular and spinoglenoid notch morphology.
