Relationship Between Stylomastoid Foramen Position and Temporal Bone Dimensions Among Young Adults

Abstract

The study examines the relationship between stylomastoid foramen position and temporal bone dimensions among young adults. The stylomastoid foramen is an important opening of the temporal bone through which the facial nerve exits the skull, making its location relevant to the anatomy of the facial nerve and surrounding structures. Variations in its position in relation to temporal bone dimensions may provide useful information for anatomical studies and clinical procedures involving the temporal region. The study will assess the position of the stylomastoid foramen using appropriate standardized anatomical landmarks and measurement procedures. Selected dimensions of the temporal bone will also be determined using suitable anatomical or imaging-based techniques, depending on the study setting. The study will focus on identifying variations in the location of the stylomastoid foramen and determining whether measurable associations exist between its position and temporal bone dimensions. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Young adults who meet the eligibility criteria will be selected using an appropriate sampling procedure. The study may provide reference information that can contribute to improved understanding of the anatomical relationships within the temporal region and support clinical procedures and interpretation of imaging involving the facial nerve and skull base. The study will conclude by highlighting the observed relationship between stylomastoid foramen position and temporal bone dimensions among young adults. It will recommend the use of standardized anatomical landmarks and measurement procedures in studies involving the stylomastoid foramen and temporal bone. Further research involving larger and more diverse populations and detailed imaging or osteological methods will also be recommended to establish broader anatomical reference data.
