Relationship Between Thigh Length and Hip Mobility Among Undergraduate Students
Abstract
The study examines the relationship between thigh length and hip mobility among undergraduate students. Thigh length is an important anthropometric characteristic that reflects the proportional dimensions of the lower limb, while hip mobility is essential for locomotion, posture, balance, and various physical activities. Understanding the relationship between thigh length and hip mobility may provide useful information on the anatomical and functional characteristics of the lower limb among young adults. The study will specifically determine the thigh length of undergraduate students and assess hip mobility through selected standardized movements of the hip joint. Thigh length will be measured using appropriate anatomical landmarks and standardized anthropometric procedures, while hip mobility will be assessed through relevant range-of-motion measurements. The study will also determine the strength and direction of the relationship between thigh length and hip mobility among the participants. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Undergraduate students will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique, and relevant demographic information will be obtained. Thigh length will be measured using standardized anthropometric procedures, while hip mobility will be assessed using an appropriate goniometric or range-of-motion technique. The collected data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while correlation analysis will be used to determine the relationship between thigh length and hip mobility. The study is expected to reveal variations in thigh length and hip mobility among the participating undergraduate students. It is also expected to determine whether a significant association exists between thigh length and the measured range of hip movement. The findings will provide information on the relationship between lower limb anthropometric characteristics and joint mobility without implying that thigh length directly causes differences in hip mobility. The findings will be useful to anatomists, physiotherapists, sports scientists, physical educators, occupational therapists, orthopaedic professionals, and researchers interested in lower limb anatomy and function. The study may provide baseline information for understanding normal variations in thigh dimensions and hip mobility and may support future research involving lower limb biomechanics, physical performance, and functional assessment. The study will conclude by establishing the observed relationship between thigh length and hip mobility among undergraduate students. It is expected to recommend the use of standardized anthropometric and range-of-motion assessment procedures in similar studies and encourage further research involving larger and more diverse populations to provide broader information on the relationship between lower limb proportions and hip function.
